Sony DualShock 4 gamepad is better than Steam Controller as DualShock 4 has more buttons and sticks:

  • Triggers & Bumpers: Both have 4
  • Touchpad: Both have 2
  • Action buttons: Both have 4
  • System buttons: Both have 3
  • Traditional D-pad: DualShock 4 only, Steam Controller has none
  • Sticks: DualShock 4 has 2, Steam Controller has 1

Traditional Gamepad:

  • Limited number of buttons (1)
  • Unable to aim accurately and quick (0)
  • Comfortable as player can stay sitting or lying on couch (2)

Keyboard and Mouse:

  • Unlimited-like number of buttons (keys) (2)
  • Able to aim accurately and quick (2)
  • Uncomfortable as player must sit in front of the display (0)

Steam Controller:

  • Limited number of buttons (1)
  • Able to aim accurately but not so quick (2)
  • Comfortable as player can stay sitting or lying on couch (2)

Red is a bad point, orange is a OK point, blue is a good point. Put 0 point for red, 1 point for orange, 2 points for blue. Here’s the result:

  • Traditional gamepad: 3 points
  • Keyboard and mouse: 4 points
  • Steam controller: 5 points

However, for those game without necessity of aiming accurately like RPG (target can be selected with Tab key), traditional gamepads work fine! For those games like FPS games, RTS games where players have to click and select precisely and quickly, traditional gamepads face nightmares!
